A bold new step in health, life sciences and STEM education for SFUSD students.

The Vision

Inspiring the next generation of health professionals,
scientists, innovators and problem solvers.

San Francisco is a global life sciences leader — but 80% of employers report a shortage of skilled workers. The Mission Bay Hub is designed to change that. We’re building a $13.8M state-of-the-art health, life sciences and STEM learning space and program for SFUSD high schoolers, opening January 2026.

The Need

Build a diverse, local pipeline for thousands of STEM careers

Life sciences jobs grew 79% faster than the national average (CBRE, 2023)

Career pathway programs double college entry rates for underrepresented students (CART, 2011)

200+ life sciences companies in SF are ready to hire — if we prepare our students

What It Is

The Mission Bay Hub is a 11,149 sq ft, hands-on STEM campus

Located on the 4th floor of SFUSD’s new Mission Bay Elementary School, the Hub will include:

  • Cutting-edge life sciences lab

  • Patient care learning space

  • Design & engineering studio

  • Flexible collaboration space

Why Here

This neighborhood is home to UCSF’s cutting-edge medical campuses, Kaiser Permanente, biotech startups, and world-class research institutions like QB3 and the Gladstone Institutes. By placing students in the center of this vibrant ecosystem, the Hub gives them direct access to the people, tools, and ideas shaping the future of health and science. It’s more than proximity — it’s immersion.

What Students Get

Hands-on experience + real-world preparation

  • Professional certifications & field experience

  • Academic credit (science, ELA)

  • Mentorship from industry experts

  • Advanced research projects with STEM professionals

  • A focus on supporting BIPOC and underrepresented students
