Mission Bay Hub - A permanent home for life sciences immersion

On August 6, 2026, SFUSD's Life Sciences Immersion campus moved into a permanent home:
11,000+ square feet purpose-built for health, life sciences, and STEM on the 4th floor of the new Mission Bay School. It will serve 1,322 high school students a year — a working life sciences lab, a patient care simulation space, and a design and engineering studio, open to every SFUSD high schooler.
The Hub sits two blocks from UCSF Mission Bay and in the middle of one of the country's densest life sciences corridors. That proximity is the point. Students are already working alongside UCSF oncology researchers, training in UCSF's nursing program with clinical mentors, and shadowing clinical practice — pathways that run from biotech research to allied health and medical engineering.
Thank you to the Spark community! A $13.8M campaign, powered by Spark's donor community and matched by public investment, turned a floor plan into a facility. Our thanks to UCSF Mission Bay, Kaiser Permanente, our Mission Bay biotech partners, Mayor Daniel Lurie, SFUSD Superintendent Dr. Maria Su, and Principal Monette Benitez.
